Reviews
Yakitori was great. Unagi eel was absolutely amazing. I asked for the secret dessert menu and it was ube tiramisu. It was so good and also came in a large amount! I don’t recommend king salmon tho. It was overall a great experience!
Everything, incl skewers, tofu, dessert, was super good until we were charged much higher for the grilled collar. It was $15 on the special menu but end up being $22 on the check. There’s no prior communication and the staff told us the price on the menu was wrong. The collar was almost the best we had in the states and we have no doubt that everything behind the collar deserves a great value of respect. However, the experience wasn’t that good and hope they can fix their menu asap.
Love this restaurant. We have not visited it in a while, but will definitely add it back into our rotation of Austin's Japanese restaraunts. Today we decided to try a variety of appetizers and items off the happy hour menu. It was a delightful mix of small dishes all exploding with unique flavors and textures. One of our favorite items on the menu is the "Funky Stuff." It is fermented squid, as well as Kimchi snails, and pickled mustard greens. We also had the Sunomono jellyfish, which had an amazing chewy texture. The fried oysters on the happy hour menu are tasty, crunchy and juicy. They are fried up in a super crispy batter which tasted fresh. The Ankimo bites that come with Ikura are a must have: both creamy and citrusy. I had to have two. The whole experience was a pleasure. The staff was on hand to take our order as needed and did not leave us lacking for anything. The ambiance is casual and reminiscent of a traditional Izakaya in Japan. Of course they make more traditional dishes like sashimi and nigiri, but we were craving something different tonight.
We sat at the bar in front of the cooks. Everything that came out was divine. We started with sake cocktails & the ILY so matcha was my absolute favorite, but all bar drinks we had were perfect. The batter on the fried squid tentacles was soo good. We shared the pasta with sea urchin cream sauce & it tastes better than it looks ( & it looks amazing) !! The sushi was so fresh, best I’ve had in the city so far. It was a perfect dinner for our anniversary ❤️
We tried at least one item from every section. All of the rolls (Negitoro + Usagi-Chan) and nigiri were amazing. The skewers were both pretty good too - we had the King Salmon and the Buta Bara (would definitely recommend the latter). The other items were pretty good too, but if I did it over again, I would probably get more of the rolls/nigiri/skewers. I would recommend trying it at least once, and I will probably go back again at some point.
Came down to visit Austin for a week, and let me tell you if you're looking for a place to eat, I highly recommend this place. At first, I was thrown off when I saw they inky had raw sushi as I'm very picky when it come to that but the server Luke was awesome at suggesting what to get and was super helpful. I got a few dishes from the pictures below, and by far, it was absolutely amazing.... delicious, I would definitely go back every time I visit Austin. The atmosphere was really good as well everyone was really attentive and kind felt welcomed from the moment I walked in. Oh, before I forget, if you enjoy misou soup as much as I do, this place has the best misou soup 🍲 I've ever had, honestly. I definitely found my new favorite place here in Austin!
Me and my family went here for my birthday and they served us some of the best Japanese food I’ve had. They have a great selection of exotic foods and their desserts are phenomenal. DEFINITELY come here.
The fried chicken was absolutely delicious, grilled squid was glorious!
My friend took me around Austin and told me I had to go here that it was life changing, the staff welcomed us as we walked it. Everyone welcomed him back, and was happy to see us. It really seemed like everyone loved their job and made you feel so at home.
And the dessert was amazing, I can't wait to go back to Austin just for this amazing place!
